Over the past several years, Nicole worked as a Branch Manager in Residential Lending. Late in 2006 she decided it was time to take a break from the lending industry and pondered continuing her education; however, she did not want to abandon her passion, assisting home buyers. In October 2006 she obtained part time employment at The Gorenflo Law Firm, Seven Lakes, NC. This employment enabled her to fulfill her desire to work in the Real Estate industry and also allowed her to proceed with her education goals. While at the law firm, she provided clerical support to Attorney Michael Gorenflo and his assistant, Julie Hendrick with all Real Estate closing transactions, thereby broadening her knowledge of Real Estate in our area. Her professional goals include; completing her Accounting degree. Her recent professional accomplishments include receiving her NC Real Estate Brokers license in July 2008.
Nicole joined The Sandhills Team in November 2007, bringing with her over ten years of office management and Real Estate lending experience. Through continued education, and her experiences in the Residential Lending industry, Nicole has acquired the integrity and professional skills needed to further insure an exceptional home buying or selling experience.

Around 1820, Charles Shaw, a first generation Scottish settler, acquired 2,500 acres that was to become Southern Pines. He later sold 625 acres to James T. Patrick, North Carolina’s first commissioner if immigration. Patrick’ goal was to start a town that would draw newcomers to the state. When Patrick laid out the town, he named the streets for northern states. With the railroad straight down the middle, the new town was to entice weary travelers making their way from the north to Florida to take a break on their long train trip. Patrick lived to see the town of Southern Pines become a successful thriving community. The Boyd family was one of the most outstanding Southern Pines families. James Boyd, novelist and publisher, initiated the equestrian and literary pursuits that remain a popular aspect of today’s life. Southern Pines is the largest municipality in Moore County with just over 11,000 residents who enjoy its tree-lined streets, charming shops and equally charming homes.

During a trip south for his health, James W. Tufts, a philanthropist as well as a shrewd businessman, felt there was a market for an affordable spot for northern working people to escape the cold winter weather. In 1895 he bought 5,500 acres of pine barrens from Henry A. Page of Aberdeen. From June to December 1895, a transformation was under way for those pine barrens, thanks in part to Frederick Law Olmsted who designed the village and specified 226,000 trees and shrubs to beautify the area. By the early 1900’s Pinehurst covered 10 square miles and included four hotels, fifty cottages, two golf courses and a 35,00 acre shooting preserve.

From its very beginning Aberdeen was commercially based. Highland Scots were the original settlers, attracted to the area in the 1700’s. The town was originally named Bethesda, then Blue’s Crossing. The name was later changed in honor of the resident’s Scottish ties. Lumber, timber and other commercial activities along with a railroad made Aberdeen a bustling commercial center in the early 1900’s.
Seven Lakes In 1973, Sanford businessman, Fred Lawrence, began the Seven Lakes residential development on more than 4,000 acres. The community included a pool, tennis courts, a riding stable and seven lakes. Later expansion became Beacon Ridge and included an eighth lake, Lake Auman. Today Seven Lakes enjoys a mixture of retirees and young professionals. The area is considered one of the fastest growing communities in Moore County with a population over 2,000.

In the early 18th century, Englishmen and Scots settled an area they called Piney Bottom. The high sandy ridge running through Piney Bottom had been a favorite hunting spot for local Indians. The new settlers made their living from the pine forest that grew along the ridge by selling turpentine and construction timbers. Piney Bottom is said to have been the site of a 1780 skirmish during the American Revolution between the Tories and the Whigs. Agriculture emerged in the 20th century offering plentiful crops of cotton, tobacco, corn and rye. Vineyards and peach orchards were numerous. The development of Foxfire into a modern day resort and residential community began in 1967. Rowland McKenzie and his partner Dan Tomlinson transformed a 2,200 acre “Piney Bottom” farm into a residential community they named Foxfire fot a mysterious luminescence that sometimes appears on decaying wood and plants. The Village of Foxfire, incorporated in 1977, is a scenic golfing resort and residential community that sits on one of Moore County’s highest elevation.
Traditional golf at its best. Experience two of the finest layouts the Village of Pinehurst area has to offer. You will fall in love with both Gene Hamm designed classic courses. His flair for classic golf design, use of natural contour of the land, tree lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers and generous greens make Foxfire and ageless classic. With 36 holes, course access is trouble free.
Foxfire Resort & Golf East Course
Considered to be the most challenging, the east course, formerly known as the Grey Fox, covers hilly terrain with several doglegs cut through towering pines. Shot making is a premium on the well bunkered layout with characteristic elevated greens. Heavily guarded with deep bunkers, golfers find it important to position the ball on the proper side of the fairway to get the best approach angle to these slightly smaller greens In the best condition it has been in over 10 years, the east course provides all levels of golfers to a playable challenge. If you played this course several years ago, it is time to see it again, we think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Foxfire Resort & Golf West Coast
Preferred by many members, the west course, formerly known as the Red Fox, offers wide manicured fairways and large elevated fast tolling greens. Water comes into play on 6 holes requiring forced carriers from the back tees but with the option of going around the hazards from the forward tees. Fairway bunkers are strategically placed to grab the wayward shot and there is no lack of sand guarding the greens. this beautiful Gene Hamm design offers plenty of “Bail Out” places to avoid the most severe drop offs and deep faced bunkers. the G-6 hybrid bent grass greens hold shots well, but many confound even the best of putters with their characteristic subtle breaks.
